On Tuesday November 21st 2006, CERTFORCHILE held a Public Consultation Workshop to collect comments and recommendations for the national standard current version in order to maintain transparency in the certification standard development and implementation.

About 30 representatives from different organizations attended the meeting, among them: CONAF (National Forestry Commission), INFOR (Forestry Institute), CONAMA (Environment National Commission), SAG (Agriculture and Livestock Service), CORMA (Forest Sector Association) , ACHS (Chilean Association of Labor Security), Asociación Indígena Mapu-Lahual (Mapu-Lahual Indigenous Association), Red de Pequeños Propietarios de la Araucania (Small Forest Owners of the Araucanía Region), Confederación de Trabajadores Forestales (Forest Workers Confederation), Colegio de Ingenieros Forestales (Forest Engineers Association), Universidad Austral (Austral University), Universidad Católica (Catholic University), Universidad Mayor (Mayor University), SGS-Chile, CMPC Celulosa (CMPC Pulp), Forestal Arauco (Arauco Forestry), Masisa (Masisa Forestry), Forestal Mininco (Mininco Forestry), among others.
In his opening speech, CERTFORCHILE Superior Council Chairman Guillermo Geisse underlined the importance of continually improving and adjusting standards to the national forest reality. Therefore, he invited all the interested parties to deliver their comments and suggestions.
CERTFORCHILE Executive Director Aldo Cerda pointed out that “our responsibility does not consist in promoting the old spirit connected to “the Label War” but in improving the CERTFOR-PEFC image and considering it as a responsible alternative to promote SFM in the world. Indeed, the CERTFOR label must be considered as the best option to certify Chilean forests”. He underlined that in the future PEFC will develop substantial marketing and promotional campaign on various markets.
A substantial number of comments were collected from the meeting attendants. Received remarks will be compiled and presented to CERTFOR Superior Council which will be held on December 6, 2006. The Council will evaluate them. Then CERTFOR website (www.certfor.org) will publish the draft mentioning all the new changes in its final issue.
