CERTFORCHILE Today

CERTFORCHILE is a private corporation that takes in charge the administration and periodic update of the standards and procedures in the system.

Its mission is to promote forest sustentability, by establishing the bases of a participative process and to seek the acceptable and accepted use, maintenance, enrichment and preservation of Chile’s forest resources potential.

The Chilean Certification System CERTFOR was internationally endorsed by PEFC in October, 2004. PEFC is a non-governmental, non-profit, independent organization created in 1999 in order to promote Third-Party Forest Certification.

The schemes recognized by PEFC are built based on processes recognized by 149 governments, and include 85 % of the world forests. In general terms, it is about the Criteria and Indicators that came from the Helsinki Conferences (1993) and the Montreal Process (1993), also known as Pan - European Criteria for the Forest Sustentability Management. So far, 35 national schemes are members of the PEFC, of which 23 have been positively evaluated and endorsed.
