REPORT ON CERTIFICATION IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

The Timber Trade Federation of the U.K. has launched a report about the penetration of the certification schemes in the U.K., with data obtained in 2008, and that serves as actualization of a similar report made in 2005. The report includes a comparison between certification schemes present in the U.K., and an analysis of the certification by type of products.

PEFC WIDENS MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

PEFC has opened a new category of membership, which enables NGOs, associations and businesses operating in two or more countries or legally registered as "international" that share common principles and objectives with PEFC International to join.

PEFC SPAIN CERTIFIES FIRST CORK PROCESSING INDUSTRY

The Corcho del País Group -first group provider of natural corks for wine of Rioja Denomination of Origin and other title- will certified with PEFC all of its production of cork stoppers. This was announced during a meeting held yesterday and today in Girona, attended by Josep Pla and Francesc JimĂ©nez (Corcho del País), Joan Rovira (Consorcio Forestal de Catalunya) Teresa Cervera and Joan Porras (PEFC Catalunya) and Ana Belen Noriega (PEFC Spain).

CAIXA GALICIA WILL NO LONGER USE 10,000 PLASTIC BAGS A YEAR AND WILL USE ONLY ECOLOGICAL PAPER

Caixa Galicia, one of the most important financial institutions in Spain, will no longer uses 10,000 plastic bags a year in its sales offices and central departments and employ only other ecological paper from sustainable forests. The initiative has the endorsement by the Pan European Forest Certification (PEFC) - considered the "world's largest" forest certification system --.

INTERVIEW TO ANA BELEN NORIEGA

In an interview published in the newspaper Cinco Dias, the Secretary General of PEFC Spain, Ana Belen Noriega, argues that forest certification "is constituted as a new green economy niche based on conservation and sustainable use. Sustainable forest management creates opportunities for new business attitudes that provide sustainability. "
