CERTFOR ACHIEVE FULL RE-ENDORSED WITH PEFC
As a result of a rigorous evaluation by INDUFOR during 2008, the Chilean System of Sustainable Forest Management Certification was re-endorsed internationally by PEFC, which includes for first time the CERTFOR Standard of sustainable management of Native Forests.

TORRASPAPEL: WIDE RANGE OF PRODUCTS AVAILABLE FSC AND PEFC CERTIFIED
Torraspapel, a Lecta Group company, has completed the process for the Chain of Custody certification of their factories to obtaining FSC certification for its special paper and stickers mills. As a result, the 7 mills of the group have FSC and PEFC certification on its entire product ranges - pulp, paper and non-coated, carbonless, thermal, high gloss, metallic and self adhesive - are covered by such certifications.

EU SIGNS AN AGREEMENT WITH THE REPUBLIC OF CONGO FOR TRADING OF LEGAL TIMBER ONLY
The Europe Union and the Government of the Republic of Congo announced a new agreement that for first time established a system to ensure that the exported timber products from the African country to the EU don´t have illegal timber and come from managed forest to benefit the local communities.

A STUDY WAS MADE TO GIVE A SUSTAINABLE USED TO THE FOREST BIOMASS

THE HOSPITAL DE LA CONCEPCION OF BURGOS OBTAIN THE CERTIFICATE OF SUSTAINABILITY PEFC
The Hospital de la Concepción, property of the Burgos University (UBU) has obtained the PEFC certificate of chain of custody for construction projects, guaranteeing that the wood used come from sustainably managed forests.

PEFC ENDORSEMENT OF THE MALAYSIAN TIMBER CERTIFICATION SCHEME (MTCS)
The Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) has become the first tropical timber certification scheme in the Asia Pacific region, and the second in the world after the Gabonese Forest Certification Scheme, to be endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC).

SPAIN-CANADA BILATERAL MEETING ON SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT
Backers of the Spanish Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Environment, representatives of the Government of Canada and Governments of the Provinces of British Columbia and Quebec, the industry associations (Confemadera, ASEMFO y AEIM) and PEFC met in Madrid to lay the foundations for a future bilateral cooperation aimed at promoting the Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) and the harmonization of the public policies of green purchase.

QUICK OPENED A PILOT RESTAURANT IN THE DAMMARIE HQE-LES-LYS
The restaurant building project began in April 2007. According Quick, the wood certified PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) was used for the restoration of the vertebral column and, in fiber form for insulation.

GABON SCHEME MEETS PEFC BENCHMARK
Gabon is the first African country to have a forest certification scheme that meets PEFC´s sustainability benchmark requirements.
The endorsement relates to the Gabonese Forest Certification Scheme (PAFC Gabon) and will run for three years instead of the normal five years.

The Estonian Forest Certification Council was established in 2001 and was endorsed by PEFC Council in March 2008.

The Estonian scheme uses the PEFC International Chain of Custody standard (Annex 4 of the PEFC Technical Document) for the purposes of chain of custody certification.

Currently, Estonian Forest Certification Council don´t have certified hectares but in cooperation with the Private Forest Union, the voice for Private Forestry in Estonia, who took the initiative to gather a group of forest owners interested to become certified, the certified hectares are 56.000. The number of chains of custody is 4.

The option of forest certification that they provide is: individual, group or regional.

For the present time, the objectives of Estonian Forest Certification Council are: increase the share of sustainable and actively managed forests in Estonia, especially among private forest owners properties, which own half of the Estonian forest land; simplified subsidy scheme/tax-free system for certified forest owners, which would significantly increase the share of well managed forests; and finish the pilotproject in cooperation with the Private Forest Union to make the necessary documents to develop a group certification scheme with the support of German and Finnish experts.

EVOLUTION AND TRENDS

Christiane says: "PEFC certification is very new here, but the strong request towards the pilotproject was surprising for all of us".

The state forest service, which has the other half of the Estonian forests, plans to apply for the PEFC certificate in 2010.

Christiane says: "The CoC is developing; actually we see a very broad band of CoC, and I think there could be a good possibility to build up strong connections with the private forest owners connected through the pilotproject to PEFC".

PEFC AND THE BIG TRADEMARKS IN ESTONIA

The Estonian Forest Industries Union uses the logo in category 4 as promoter, as well as the Private Forest Union.

Also, there are two logo licences issued for CoC: Kroonpress (printed matter) and Wertholz Eesti (valuable wood for export). Christiane think that RMK, the state forest service, will use the logo, as well as the forest owners from the pilotproject. Among them is Södra Eesti.
